LEGAL AID

This is a benefit provided for by the Italian Constitution (as per art. 24), consisting of the granting of free legal aid to persons that are unable to cover the costs of bringing legal actions or defending themselves in court. Costs (authorised lawyers, consultants and investigators) are covered by legal aid granted by the State.

STATE-GRANTED LEGAL AID

State intervention in favour of persons entitled to legal aid for the payment of legal costs (authorised lawyers, consultants and investigators). State-granted legal aid, already provided for in criminal and labour law proceedings, for legal challenges to expulsion orders against foreigners and for appeals to the privacy authority for the protection of personal data, has recently been extended to civil law and administrative cases and to non-contentious proceedings (legge n.134/2001).
